The square courtyard in the temple
is the scene of the chariot race...
This was Ben Hur Hindi style... I recommend this... put it on your list...
It was a total all out assault on every sense...
The chariots are about 20meters high... difficult to describe but imagine a huge paper air balloon you sit in...
This in turn is perched on a chariot... carved out of wood... there are 3... pulled by rope...
around a 200 meter square course.... oh.. and about 2000 helpers... It lasts about an hour... ending with a bizarre fire and dance ceremony which included loads of kids in skeleton outfits with torches of dripping flames.... cooool and slightly random ;o)
Whats even more bizarre is the elephants are chain free to roam in the crowd.. they give blessings by tapping people on the head and ring their bells around their necks in time to the music.....Maaan this is surreal.... Intelligence beyond our comprehension ....
They know exactly where to walk with no trainers
close... well kind of... they did send a few people
running including myself when one decided to go for a bit of a jog!!!Mad?
